The Budget Computer Vol 1

This series of articles will not attempt to give you the perfect build for your price. It will however try and help you decide what you should spend the extra money on and things to consider.

The first question you have to ask yourself is, what am I going to be using this computer for? Am I going to be doing a lot of multitasking and having many applications open at once? Do I intend to do art or multimedia with the machine? Is this just going to be the machine I play the latest and greatest games on? Purpose will help define what you should buy.

The next major question to ask is Desktop, Laptop, Notebook, or some combination of the three? There seems to be a trend in todays society to get heavy laptops that are really powerfull so that you can play games on them as well as surf the web from starbucks. In some scenarios it makes perfect sense to get a high powered heavy laptop. However this is only the case if you intend to be away from your house when you do the more processor/video intensive tasks. The key element of the laptop is the mobility and unless your are going to be mobile when playing that latest greatest video game it isn't worth it.

So once you are done figuring out what your intended uses for the computer are you will be ready for Vol 2 where I will discuss various options and where it is best to spend the extra dollars.
